Summary

The new Marshfield Junior High is a 50,630sf three-story facility that replaced an older school building with original construction dating back to the 1920s. The same design team and consultants were used as were selected for the Eastside school project, and we competitively selected the general contractor using the CM/GC method. The new building included 12 classrooms, 2 science classrooms, a maker space, resource room, structured learning center, media center, full administrative offices, commons, kitchen and a competition-level gym with locker rooms. The school’s 8-acre site was fully improved with new parking lots and a bus loop, plus improved access to the adjacent High School and football stadium. Because masonry was so expensive when this project was being designed, pre-cast concrete exterior walls were selected based on a cost analysis of several options. Steel structure and metal wall framing were used to complete the building elements. Extensive over-excavation and back-fill was needed for most of the building pad due to the poor-quality soils on this site. Construction was completed well under budget and on-schedule for turn-over to the district in time for the new school year.
